Join us for the regular Giant Academy meet-up.
This month our theme is "Business Agility"
Never before, has the pace of change and innovation been so great. We mainly have technology to thank for that as the internet has levelled the playing field. Now it's possible for the Davids to truly rival the Goliaths as barriers and costs to entry in many markets have plummeted and access to resources and skills are no longer governed by geography.
Often, we are told to “Keep it simple and stick to what we know” but what if you could re-use your core-capabilities, enter a new market and open up new revenue streams?
Sounds like a big risk. So, was Gary Buxton - CEO of a successful 3rd sector organisation - on a flight-of-fancy when he did just that?
Gary looked the capabilities, potential and relationships his organisation - Young Advisors - had and decided to invest in an innovation path. This took Young Advisors into the Digital market place as they developed a number of web-based services to address the needs they saw around projects and social media.
For Gary, this entrepreneurial nature frames the shift in ethos from “charity” to “social enterprise “
He clearly got something right as Young Advisors have been pursuing this strategy for a number of years now and he was recently announced as one of the Clore Social Leadership Fellows for 2015. Not to mention the small matter of his MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2014.
Gary will be inspiring us to get thinking about how we can look at what we have in our businesses and how we can innovate to create more value.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There's a lot of parking within walking distance, but please bear in mind that it is a city-centre venue and traffic into the city may be heavy. NCP Car park options can be found here: http://goo.gl/IkCeY5 (you'll need to cut'n'paste that link).
Market Street and St Peter's Square Metrolink stations are both less than 10 minutes walk away.
What time should I arrive?
We're open for arrivals and informal networking from 5:30pm and the event starts shortly after 6:00pm
Will I have to do anything?
Our events are usually in two parts. An interview with a regular business person, who will share some of the things they've learnt along the way, covering both successes and those less-than-succesful times we all have. Roger and Nick will then lead a short, interactive session to explore some of that learning about what makes businesses work in a slightly deeper way. It's relaxed and informal and no expertise or skills are required other than a genuine interest in helping your own business to be giant!
Will there be refreshments?
We'll have soft drinks and small nibbles available at the start and during break.
Can we carry on chatting in the pub afterwards?
Yes! All-Bar-One is just along King Street and is a good place to continue the discussion or have a drink together.
