Event description
What does it mean to have a successful sustainable business? What stories can be told to help us understand how to grow sustainably?

About this Event

Does your business have a sustainability story to tell?

A successful sustainability story is not only fantastic for the planet, but it is a key tool in creative marketing and will help pave the way for more businesses to jump on board.

Many SMEs are unable to put planet before profit. But what if you can have both? What if putting the planet first increases your profit?

The Future Economy Network are excited to showcase company case studies that have made sustainability a business growth factor, alongside key advice tailored to suit your business needs. Come along to this business breakfast and learn how to succeed in telling your own sustainability story. Hear from experts in hospitality, circular economy, recycling and water management to learn how implementing sustainability works across all sectors.

We are excited to announce that network members Water2Business will be sponsoring this event, and we will be co-hosting alongside Resource Futures. We will welcome Poco Tapas Bar, and network members Resource Futures, Ecosurety and Water2Business to speak.

More information to be announced.

Jennifer Best, Director, Poco Tapas Bar

When Tom Hunt, Jen Best and Ben Pryor opened up their restaurant on the corner of Jamaica Street, they brought together a devotion to seasonality, locality, great food and atmosphere, with a core passion for sustainability and environmental activism which has seen them gain widespread acclaim and numerous awards, both for their sustainable practises and for the quality of their food.

Join Jennifer as she takes you on an imaginary tour to illustrate how sustainability is embedded into Poco Tapas. Learn about their policies and procedures that frame their operations, and feel inspired to find your own sustainability success story.

Abigail Warren, Client Services Manager at Ecosurety, will be talking about “The power of the why”.

Abigail will talk about how to navigate the ever-changing landscape of sustainability as a small business and how Ecosurety has been successful, through hunch, trial and stumble, in attracting customers and staff who share our values and ethos.

Meet The Speakers!

Jennifer Best, Director, Poco Tapas Bar

Jennifer is Co-Director of Poco Tapas Bar, a multi-award winning restaurant founded on the principle that an exceptional dining experience shouldn’t cost the earth; that a responsible business should treat the three P’s of People, Planet & Profit as equally important.

Jennifer is also on the board for a Catalyse Change, a social enterprise that empowers young women to become leaders in sustainability. She loves coordinating feasts that bring people together to connect over incredible food that inspires discussion around the challenges in the food industry.

Emma Burlow, Head of Circular Economy, Resource Futures

Emma is one of the UK’s leading specialists on circular economy and resource efficiency in businesses. Having worked for 20 years in the resource efficiency sector, Emma has an excellent overview of how to manage projects of scale, alongside the detail of what drives engagement of businesses and successful transition to more circular business models.

Emma's experience gives her a unique depth of understanding of the critical success factors for supporting businesses aiming to implement more circular business models, in particular, the importance of understanding the financial viability early on in the process, getting key partnerships right and understanding the marketplace.

Abigail Warren, Client Services Manager, Ecosurety

Abigail works with Ecosurety, the market leading compliance scheme based in Bristol investing in quality recycling.

With more than 1,000 customers including Danone, the Co-operative Group, Nestlé and Virgin Media, Ecosurety supports efficient and more transparent investment in UK recycling projects via infrastructure, innovation and consumer awareness campaigns.

Abigail ensures the Ecosurety team provide valuable support to our clients across the batteries, packaging and WEEE regulations.
