November’s event will be held at the Grade II listed Halifax Playhouse on Tuesday November 10th
There will be a chance to have a tour of the building, and to watch the first act of Le Grand Return, currently in rehearsal.
Light refreshments will be available and the bar will also be made available. We hope this will give our guests an opportunity to have a drink, chat informally to some of our members and to meet the Playwright, cast and creative team of Le Grand Return.
Halifax Playhouse are excited to showcase their facilities and we hope to see many friends there.
In addition to this we have Trevor Simpson.
Trevor is one of Halifax’s most charismatic sons. He’s refereed at every one of the 92 clubs (with the exception of West Ham United), Two Wembley appearances – as Linesman in the FA Vase Final and as Referee in the FA Trophy Final.
In addition to Wembley appearances Trevor operated as a Linesman in the World Cup Qualifier between Belgium and Greece and on the last International game ever played by East Germany when they played Scotland at Hampden Park in April 1990.
‘Simmo’ has also refereed at the Dallas Cup 28 times and has helped develop many current Premiership referees, including Andre Marriner, Martin Atkinson, Mike Jones, Anthony Taylor, Michael Oliver, Craig Pawson and Bobby Madley.
As a domestic Football League coach Trevor’s coaching group has included current Premiership official Lee Mason and his proudest contribution was to the early Football League career of the World Cup Final referee, Howard Webb.
At the end of the 2012 season Trevor retired from the PGMOL after completing 30 years service to The FA, Football League and Premier League in every capacity, Linesman, Referee, Assessor and Coach. This year would have been his 49th year as an official and he now actively coaches his grandson, Lewis Dawson, who is progressing through the referee ranks from the Halifax Leagues.
Trevor founded the Calderdale Hospital Radio in 1981, is currently the Charity President and still presents weekly programmes and hosts the Christmas Day ‘New Born Baby’ Special each year. He hasn’t missed a Christmas Day during the 34 years since he founded the Charity!
Trevor is also the author of 5 books, including Small Town Saturday Night (Volumes 1 & 2) which tell the story of how the town of Halifax, miraculously played host to over 50 number one artists in the decade of the sixties. The books were used as the instigation of the Halifax Musical Heritage Trail which placed plaques on all the venues and Trevor, along with Michael Ainsworth, hosts guided walks each year to contribute to the town’s tourism. These two books include amongst many others, unpublished pictures of The Beatles, Cliff & The Shadows, Billy Fury and includes the only picture taken of Michael Jackson in Halifax, before he was banned forever from the Victoria Theatre!!
More recently Trevor met Priscilla Presley and has been busy promoting his third Elvis Presley book, ELVIS: The Best of British (The RCA Years 1959 – 1960) which he will bring for sale on the night.
Following on from the success of his two previous books about The King, this new book highlights the impact of Elvis Presley after his army service. Together with the two previous books it contains the definitive story of the beginning of the British Elvis explosion. The first book contained the history of the HMV label, the story of Nipper the dog and the problems that the label encountered in promoting Elvis Presley to the unsuspecting British public. All three books are graphically illustrated and contain a total of over 1450 pages with four CDs and the last two (the first ‘sold out’) are currently on sale at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee.
We look forward to hearing more from Trevor on the night
