By popular demand BIG is back and what better day for a re-launch than the first day of the Ryder Cup. In honour of the Cup this will be a Matchplay contest aiming to re-create the drama, passion and poor dress sense of the main event.
I’m pleased to welcome on board Simon McKeag, Paul Engelbrecht and Ben Thomas to the organising committee to share the load and hopefully bring some new life to the Society. Thanks to Paul and his team at BPE for organising this event.
Also a special thanks to Simon and all at ASH Chartered Surveyors for sponsoring. For those who don’t know Ash already they are an established, independent property consultancy with a deep-rooted presence in Gloucester and Cheltenham since 1989. They look to support the local community wherever possible and hope you enjoy the day.
We hope you can join us at Lilley Brook Golf Club on Friday 26 September 2025. We are aiming for an early start to allow you to get back to the office in the afternoon. Alternatively why not stay and watch the Ryder Cup with us!
The format and aims of BIG remain simple; meet some new people; enjoy a game of golf and give a little to a local charity MNDA – Gloucestershire Branch.
We will meet at 8.00am onwards with the first tee off at 8:57am. There is a bacon roll and coffee on arrival, 4 hours of golf and a post-round meal included in the price.
Each group will be split into two pairs, who will be designated USA or European status (you are encouraged to adopt mannerisms, dress and behaviour accordingly), who will then play a four-ball better ball match for our own version of the Ryder Cup.
We will make the draw the week before the event to give you plenty of time to plan your outfits, work on your accents and to generally get into the spirit of the ‘Battle of the Brook’.
You are free to enter as an individual, pair or four ball but we will aim to form teams very loosely based on the principal of Property/Construction v Legal/Professional.
Individual interest will be retained with a nearest the pin, longest drive and Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the USA and Europe teams (roughly based on performance but acting ability, accent, general demeanour and attire will also be taken into account).
The cost is £75 per person. We are limiting the event to 40 people on a first come, first served basis so please do book your place ASAP.
Looking forward to a great day
Ian Eggleton
