OBJECTIVES

This seminar aims to provide delegates with an overview of different business structures and the implications from a Family Law point of perspective. It will include reference to relevant cases and scenarios will be used to illustrate the different business related issues which commonly crop up for Family Law practitioners. Amongst other things, this seminar will look at the ways in which we as a Family Lawyers can assist other departments in our firms to become more aware of the Family Law implications where businesses are involved, such as corporate and employment matters.

PARTICIPANTS

This seminar will be of interest to solicitors, trainee solicitors and other legal professionals working in family law.

SPEAKERS

Jenny Smith, Partner, Harper MacLeod. Jenny has experience of all aspects of family law. Jenny is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in family law as well as an accredited family mediator. She is trained in interdisciplinary collaborative practice. She is dual qualified in Scottish and English law. Jenny is a tutor in family law on the Strathclyde University Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. She is a committee member of the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow. She is also a committee member of the local Glasgow collaborative practice group. She delivers talks, both externally and internally.

Alexis Harper, Partner, Harper MacLeod. Alexis is a member of the Family Law Association and has experience in all matters relating to family law. She is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in family law. Alexis has delivered training and presentations both externally and internally relating to financial provision on separation and in particular in relation to the treatment of business interests on Divorce. Alexis is a tutor on the family law elective at Strathclyde University and has tutored on the Professional Competence Course. She is also trained in Collaborative Practice and is a member of Consensus. She is also a committee member of the local Glasgow collaborative practice group.
