Description

Designed to cover the key areas of business law that an entrepreneur needs to be aware of when developing a successful business. The class will help participants avoid the legal pitfalls of running a business whilst being able to use their legal advisers as efficiently and cost effectively as possible.
Delivered via a combination of worked examples including role play discussion and instruction with a focus on the specific needs of the businesses taking part. By the end of the day participants will understand:

  • The difference between a sole trader, partnership and limited company
  • How contracts can effect legal claims, financial loss, loss of reputation or goodwill, disagreements between business owners
  • The basic legal documents a business requires including standard terms and condition, shareholder agreements, funding agreements and non-disclosure agreements
  • How to choose a lawyer
  • How to make effective use of your lawyer
  • Do you really need a lawyer?

The day will conclude with participants taking away copies of all slides and presentation materials as well as standard form examples of the core legal documents that they will require to protect themselves and their businesses.

Lunch will be provided.



Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible to apply for support from the growth programme you must be:

• Small – your new business must be an SME. An SME has under 250 staff, turnover of £45 million and any ownership by a wider commercial group is below 25%
• Local – your business address is within the Cheshire East, the Cheshire West and Chester, or the Warrington council areas
• B2B – you must be (or plan to be) trading business-to-business and not selling directly to consumers



Parking

There is parking available at the Little Roodee car park which is a short walk from the Riverside Innovation Centre. If you need a disabled parking space please contact the organiser and request one.
