Do you want to start up in the right way?

Do you need to advice on how to grow your business?

Need advice from people who've already been there and done it for real?

This event presents a unique opportunity for student and graduate entrepreneurs across London to question and debate with a seasoned panel of experts, all members of the IOD Start Up Group. This group comprises company directors, and includes entrepreneurs, business mentors, investors and technology leaders.

The first part of the event involves a panel format enabling you to ask questions and debate with an expert panel.

The panel will comprise the following:

Justin Arbuckle

Former Chief Architect, GE Capital, and now Vice President, Europe & Chief Enterprise Architect at Chef (formerly Opscode). A graduate of the Harvard Business School, Justin is Chair of the IOD Start Up Group.

Joining Justin will be the following:


Ian Lee-Bennett
A key leader in the CEMMNT organization, a government funded program to assist UK SMEs in Nanotechnology utilisation. Ian has over 25 years of experience in business leadership ranging from start-up to £2 billion corporations; in 2010 while Business Development Director at AMETEK Taylor Hobson the management team received the Helmut N. Friedlaender Leadership Award which is presented for outstanding performance. Over the years he has also publishing numerous technical papers and presented at prestigious international conferences in Europe, USA and Asia.

Ian is a keen follower of technology, especially its impact on business development and leadership. Musically he is an accomplished song writer and vocal performer and has also been a professional personal trainer and fitness coach.

Mark Kiteley
Mark started his first company over 30 years ago having worked in computers and numerical controlled positioning systems. He sold the business in 1992.

Since then he has been on a roller-coaster ride of developing businesses, predominantly technologically related but including e-fulfilment, e-commerce, reverse logistics, customer relations, service/warranty program, asset recovery and inventory management.
He qualified as a company director 6 years ago and has been a non executive director of a number of businesses for over 20 years
Most recently he worked as a business adviser and personal business mentor.
In his spare time he flies gliders, planes and balloons, but not helicopters!

Jeanne Le Roux
Jeanne has a wealth of experience in HR as well as in her previous life as an internal auditor. She started her career 15 years ago with Arthur Andersen, learning to be process orientated and understanding the importance of compliance with legislation. She then moved to the UK working for big corporates (Disney Consumer Product, G4S and Diageo) where she understood the importance of company values and culture and helped the firm to bring that to life. After life in the big corporate, she is enabling startup and small sized businesses to implement the Talent HR delivery model which hitherto has been deemed only for big firms. She is also a mentor at the BBCW Lab and for the entrepreneur Academe program sponsored by the City of London.
Jeanne is an energetic, flexible, insightful person with great commercial acumen. She loves her wine and cheese.


David Bibby
David is a highly experienced business director/project manager, entrepreneur and mentor with over 20 years strong commercial and business development focus both at a Corporate (Enterprise) and SME level. Broad industry knowledge with strengths in technology and law.

David is also a Business Mentor with StartupDirect (a delivery provider of the Government's £300m StartupLoans initiative) and runs a business clinic providing advice, guidance and on hands support for your business across finance, sales/marketing and operations. Thrives on challenge and enjoys troubleshooting.

A serial entrepreneur, David involved in projects on Glasses-Free 3D Displays (Reach4IT), mobile & smartphone app development and Big Data analysis & presentation.

David is a keen musician with his passion being piano and hardly a day goes by that he’s not sitting there knocking out a tune or two!

Rob Harrison
Rob is the co-founder of two companies in semiconductor / telecom space and consultant to high tech companies. Currently, he is board member / NED for several companies and advising on development, licensing and exploitation of intellectual property.
Originally Electronic Engineer / Physicist. Later trained as patent and trade mark attorney. Worked for IBM for a number of years and then counsel to Gore's European intellectual property group.
Graduate of the FT's Non-Exec Diploma course. He spends his spare time hiking, climbing and biking.

Priority will be given to those who email issues and questions to discuss in advance

In the second half, there will be a clinic in an adjacent room, where you can hold more detailed conversations with the panel members.

The clinic will be on a first come first served basis, with each individual consultation limited to 10 minutes.
