In this workshop, funded by The London Borough of Hillingdon, we introduce you to simple and essential principles for business Planning


Business Planning Seminar

Overview

This seminar is designed to give you the necessary insight and awareness into the Business Planning process and what you need to consider when starting up.

The Business Plan will be your proof that you have a viable business idea. The Business Plan is primarily for YOU. Whilst it has other uses, such as for raising finance, you are the one who most needs to know that the business will be successful.

Seminar Format:

The aim is to give you thorough awareness of what’s involved in start-up and the integration of you, the person, into the pragmatic business processes:

This seminar will be made up of two sections i) About you and ii) Your Business


What will be covered


About You

  • General Introductions - Brief descriptions of each attendee’s enterprise idea and/or why self-employment appeals to you.
  • The advantages and disadvantages of both employment and self-employment (or being an owner/manager or social enterprise founder). This is to help you to consider how you’ll manage the transition from employment to being a business owner.
  • Skills evaluation - Core, Business and Personal Skills/Attributes. Desirable qualities for Entrepreneurship.
  • Skills Self-Assessment
  • Lateral Thinking Exercise - Thinking about your idea from the outside

About Your Business

The aim is to prove to yourself that you have a viable enterprise idea, that you thoroughly understand your market and that you’ve calculated how much capital you need to start up.

The Five Sections of a Business Plan.

1) A brief outline of your idea. Personal Information - experience, qualifications, motivation, vision.

2) Market Research. Desk Research, Field Research: Conclusions - how the research will inform you about market preferences, the nature of the product or service, pricing, promotion and location.

3) Marketing Plan. The 4 P’s - Product, Price, Promotion, Place. How will you bring your enterprise to market and acquire customers/clients/beneficiaries?

4) Finance. Breakeven analysis, Cashflow, Profit and Loss. Measuring performance. Sales forecasting.

5) Action Plan - what steps will you take in terms of seeking finance, premises, communicating to your market, as informed by the content of Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4?

About your trainer

Anton had a 30-year career in the packaging industry, working at CEO/Director level and interacting with some of Europe’s largest manufacturers and retailers, including RHM Foods, Mars, Unilever, M and S, Tesco, ASDA and Nestle. After running a Restaurant for 2 years, he qualified as a therapeutic counsellor and subsequently took up a role as a business counsellor. He has started up two of his own businesses, each of which were bought out by national UK companies and with whom he stayed on as divisional CEO. Like all his colleagues, he knows only too well the ups, downs, swings and roundabouts and emotional highs and lows of being an owner-manager. Anton provides Business Counselling, Training and Workshop Facilitation.
