Visiting Professor Masterclass Series

Continuing our Visiting Professor Masterclass Series we are pleased to invite Olinga Ta’eed to share his experiences and knowledge. The series draws on the extensive commercial expertise of our visiting professoriate, each of whom is a prestigious leader in their field. Birmingham City University’s Business School is located in the heart of Birmingham’s commercial district, and our teaching, learning and research are practice-based, engaging with the City-region. The Masterclasses are offered as a conduit between the University, the City, and the West Midlands Region.

Delegates are welcome from any field of industry or business, as well as the public and third sectors. Students and staff from BCU, and other academic institutions, are also welcome to attend and benefit from the insight of the speakers. The next Masterclass is as follows.

Transparency in our Lives: 101 of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency

Olinga Ta’eed is Director of the not-for-profit Centre for Citizenship, Enterprise and Governance which is the world’s leading Think Tank on the Movement of Value, with over 125,000 members. In 2014 he delivered a speech at The Vatican in recognition of what they described as “The God Metric … the fastest adopted social impact metric in the world”.

He is Founding Chief Editor of Frontiers in Blockchain, the world’s first peer-reviewed journal in this field from an independent mainstream scientific publisher. He is Executive Editor, Social Value & Intangibles Review, and Executive Editor of Efficiency Exchange.

Following a successful private sector career Olinga retired in 2008 and now runs one of the largest international blockchain teams with 5 divisions. In 2017 he headed up UK’s only official Initial Coin Offering (ICO) under FCA guidance. His current research interests are focused on the measurement, transaction and delivery of non-financial value and values through tokenisation.


Light refreshments and networking opportunities will be available from 6.00pm, prior to the Masterclass, which will take place 6.30-7.30pm. The event will be hosted in the Curzon Building, in rooms 502/3.
