Intensive A Level Business Revision for AQA and Edexcel

Thursday May 2nd 2019. Registration from 9.30am

Ian Marcousé is a business author, editor of Business Review magazine and experienced classroom teacher. He was A Level Business chief examiner for OCR (2 years) then AQA (11 years) and is now a consultant to Edexcel on syllabus development. He founded A-Z Business Training Ltd 20 years ago, to put business theory into practice. It’s still going strong. Ian also works at London University on its Teach First and PGCE programmes.

Programme

First session to start at 10.00am

1. Mastering elasticity of demand

Ian Marcouse explains the maths, the logic and the importance of price elasticity and income elasticity of demand. Both are at the heart of high quality answers to exam questions.

2. Analysing Business Case Material

This is the skill that transforms grades. Ian will take you through a past exam paper to explain how to tease out the key aspects of the storyline. This is with a view to capturing the precious but elusive marks for application.

Break

3. Profit, Contribution and Break-even

Not only do 10% of the marks go to numerical questions, but there will almost always be written questions crying out for analysis of profit or break-even. So this session will be very important.

4. Quick Quiz

10 questions on year 12 subject matter; some will require calculators; all questions will carry generous chocolate rewards. Short, sharp and noisy.

5. Exam technique

The papers in 2018 were widely regarded as pretty tough. The key is to accept that some questions demand an integrated understanding of the subject and many require the ability to draw in outside, real-world examples. Ian will explain how to do both.

Lunch break- lunch will be provided

7. The Economic Context for exams

Your examiners wrote their exam papers In December 2017. What was happening in the economy then? And what has happened since that you’d be expected to be aware of?

8. Grill an Examiner

What questions would you care to put to a very experienced examiner?

9. Writing conclusions

What exactly does an examiner mean by a concluding paragraph? What makes a conclusion? Evaluative and judgement rather than a dull, repetitive summary? We’re going to find out.

10. On the day

We finish off with advice on how to revise and successful exam technique on the day.

Close of day- 3pm
