On 5 July we're giving you the opportunity to learn about some of Britains most beautiful animals.
Sussex naturalist Michael Blencowe will be leading a special morning session as we head out into the wildflower meadows and woods at Mayes Park in search of skippers, admirals, emperors and other butterflies. We'll spend time amongst the blues, browns, whites and learn all about their lives and how to identify them.
Michael will also be shining a light into the world of moths. We'll be opening the previous night's moth trap survey to discover these amazing insects. There are over 2500 species of moth in the UK and among them are some of Britain's most stunning (and weird!) species.
Increasing biodiversity is the driving force behind our work at Mayes Park. Through restoring and increasing the wild habitats on the farm we hope to enhance and encourage wildlife. And we hope that visitors can experience, enjoy and learn about the incredible wildlife that finds a home here.
Sussex naturalist Michael Blencowe has been studying butterflies and moths in Sussex for many years and is co-author of the book 'The Butterflies of Sussex'
