GSO with local conductor Alan Gough MBE present a concert, which is for all the family, aged 8 to 80. The programme includes music to inspire the young and entertain the not so young with a packed programme of classical greats.
This features both music written for adults that the young will enjoy, and music for the young that the adults will love. (They were young once too!)
The Overture “Girl Crazy” by Gershwin, a Slavonic Dance by Dvorak and Overture to “Candide” by Bernstein are all mixed with Parade of the Wooden Soldiers by Jessel, Entry of the Gladiators (or Clowns) by Fucik and themes from the film “How To Train Your Dragon”.
A first for the family concerts is a Concerto for Alto Saxophone by the composer and arranger of light music, Ronald Binge. This features local music teacher Katie Platt as soloist.
This concert is a great experience for any young person who is thinking of taking up a musical instrument or is already learning one. It gives them the chance to see and hear what can be achieved if you keep working at it.
