About this event

Join us for a practical and empowering bike maintenance workshop designed exclusively for Black women, delivered by Cycle Confident and funded by Waltham Forest through their Walking and Cycling Fund.

This workshop is a 5-hour in-depth bike maintenance session designed to help you feel confident maintaining your bike. We will have two instructors who will be guiding you on how to look after your bike and fix common bike problems. These sessions normally cost £90, but due to funding from Waltham Forest, each place is completely free to attend. We only have 10 spots, so book now!

If you can't make this session, we are running the same session on October 11th in Chingford. Check out our Eventbrite page.

Who is this for?

BWOW (Black Women on Wheels) is a space created by and for Black women. This workshop is part of our mission to get more Black women to discover the joy of cycling. Therefore, this session is for Black women only, which means cis or trans-Black and/or Black/mixed women. Come learn how to look after your bike in a safe, warm and encouraging environment.

What you’ll learn:

This hands-on, supportive session will teach you how to:

  • Perform a basic safety check (M Check)
  • Replace and adjust your bike pads
  • Lubricate your cable and chain
  • Fix a puncture
  • Adjust your gears - indexing
  • Carry out other essential bike maintenance tasks

The workshop is worth £90 per person, but thanks to funding from Waltham Forest, it’s completely free.

What do you need to bring?

  • You will need to bring your bike (you will be using this in the session).
  • A packed lunch or money to buy lunch

Need to cancel?

We understand that cancellations happen, but if you need to cancel, let us know as soon as possible so that your place can be given to someone else. We expect these sessions to be extremely popular, so we are operating a waiting list. Each place is free but worth £90, so we don't want your funded place to go to waste.
