BYP Network Cardiff will be hosting their first networking event of its kind in South Wales for black and minority ethnic professionals.

About this Event

Dubbed the Linkedin for black professionals the BYP network App has over 30,000 users and is supported by top brands including Airbnb, Deloitte, BT, Accenture, Spotify & Uber. Join us for the exciting Cardiff launch!

This event will be a chance for students, graduates and experienced hires from BAME backgrounds to meet and learn more about the network, make new friendships and meet top companies in Cardiff. For Progressive employers this is an opportunity to find out more about the UK largest black network, meet top talent and discover how to truly create a diverse workforce.

Located in the creative tech hub, Tramshed Tech, it will be an evening of inspiration, networking, learning and fun!

Panellists

Sol Bamba - Cardiff City FC

Sol is a defender for Cardiff City FC and has played in three World Cup Championships with Ivory Coast in 2016, 2010 & 2014. More recently Sol and his team were named Championship team of the season when promoted to the premier league.

He’s played for Paris Saint-German, Scottish clubs Dunfermline Athletic and Hibernian making more than 100 appearances in the Scottish Premier League and Leicester City. He's received several awards including being named PFA Community Champion for his work in the community.

John Giwa- Amu - Red And Black Films

John runs production and financing company Red and Black Films with writer/director Caradog James.

John has produced 11 films including Berlin Winner, The Party , Don’t Knock Twice. Previous films include The Call Up, directed by award winning director, Charles Barker, The Silent Storm. His follow up feature, sci-fi cult hit The Machine premiered in Tribeca and won three BAFTAs Cymru, a BIFA and the Screen Award for UK distribution. The Machine was commissioned to be made into a $9m TV Pilot by NBC Universal/SyFy which John Executive Produced in 2017.

John sits on the board for Film Cymru Wales and consults Welsh Government on film and TV investments. John has won the BBC talent Award and been honoured as a Breakthrough Brit, a Future Leader by Screen International and graduated from the international business initiative, Inside Pictures 2017.

Bernie Davies - Director of Introbiz West Wales & Owner of Jamaican Jills

Bernie Davies, Founding Council member of the South Wales Chamber of Commerce who served as a Dynamo Role Model whilst Head of Property at NewLaw Solicitors is also a business strategist, motivational speaker and author.

Since 2012 Bernie and her husband Mark have owned an operated an award winning Restaurant in Neath and Swansea and during that time she served as Chair of the Neath Chamber of Trade where Bernie was instrumental in Launching the Love Neath Campaign.

Some of Bernie's recent awards are Excellence in Business 2017 for Black History Month, Swansea Black Icon 2018, Top 100 restaurants in Wales 2018 and Best Caribbean Restaurant in Wales 2019. Bernie is the very first franchisee for the Introbiz brand and will be the representative for businesses across Swansea and West Wales.

Kima Otung - Microsoft

Kima is a consultant lawyer who quit her 6 figure job to specialise as a technology and artificial intelligence legal consultant, and landed Microsoft as one of her first clients where she advises as one of the most senior points of escalation of global legal matters.

Kima is also a property investor, singer and content creator. Kima recognises the value in brand creation and is building her personal brand comprised of nearly 40,000 Instagram followers, and thousands of YouTube fans.

Fadhili Maghiya - SSAP

Fadhili is the director of the Sub-Sahara Advisory Panel. ​With a background in Human Rights and International Development, Fadhili worked for the United Nation's International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the Royal African Society before joining Sub-Sahara Advisory Panel (SSAP).

He spearheaded Common Ground Initiative's, Africa-UK platform in Wales and currently responsible for coordinating and managing SSAP's Inclusion role within Hub Cymru Africa.

Outside the development sector Fadhili is the founder and curator of Watch-Africa; the first Wales African Film Festivals.
