About the C-Card Scheme:

Derbyshire and Derby City C-Card scheme provides condoms and chlamydia screening to young people via a coordinated, mutli-agency, quality-driven distribution network for young people aged 13 - 24 who:

  • are considered to be at risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and/or unplanned pregnancies
  • required access to supplies of free condoms, chlamydia screens and confidential sexual health information

Who is this training for?

Anyone who works with 13 - 24 year olds and are planning to set up a condom collection scheme e.g. Health care professionals, sexual health staff, youth workers, GP surgeries, pharmacies.

Training aims:

This full day course will provide professionals with the skills and tools to confidently register young people aged 13 - 24 years old to the C-Card Scheme, issue condoms to young people and offer a chlamydia testing kit within their setting, under the Derbyshire and Derby City scheme. It will also enable professionals to better respond to sexual health issues in their work with young people.

We also offer a half day training course, on alternative dates for those working with 16 - 24 year olds (over 16s only).

Please arrive at 9.30am for registration, tea/coffee. The training will start promptly at 10am and finish at 4pm.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the training participants will be able to...

  • understand the importance of free, accessible condoms for young people
  • demonstrate how to put a condom on safely and effectively using a demonstrator
  • understand young people's issues around the use of condoms and know what key messages to give young people about condoms and their use
  • understand the law relating to condom distribution
  • understand the safeguarding requirements of the scheme, including the importance of the vulnerable under 18s checklist
  • understand safeguarding for under 16s
  • understand the ordering process
  • monitoring and reporting process for the C-Card Scheme
  • know about and be able to signpost young people to appropriate services for their sexual health
  • sign up to the C-Card scheme
