Welcome to the 'C' is for Christmas - Online Bookbinding Bookarts Workshop! 📚✂️ Join us on November 23, 2025 at 10:30 AM (Europe/London) for a fun and creative session, get ready to pain and stitch, use old Medieval techniques with a modern twist. No experience needed, just bring your enthusiasm! Learn how to craft beautiful handmade books perfect for holiday gifts.

The project itself inspired by medieval manuscripts collection at Worcester Cathedral. We will learn about illuminated letters , colours, techniques and paint one of the letters of your choice (C is a suggestion) using watercolours. We will use this illuminated letter for the covers on our hand stitch Medieval style journal.

The aim of this course is to create a beautiful journal while learning medieval bookbinding techniques and a bit about medieval illumination and to have a go at trying it yourself.

THIS COURSE constructed from 3 sessions:

Session 1 - Sunday 23th November

Session 2 - Sunday 30th November

Session 3 - Sunday 7th December

Time: 10.30 - 12.30 (London)

ALL THREE SESSIONS WILL BE RECORDED WITH NO EXPIRY DATE so if you can't join us live you still can do it using the recordings at your convenience. It can be a winter project if you are busy at the moment.

MATERIALS:

  • 15 x A4 coloured thick paper or thin card, 160-180gsm, short grain (cut into 45 sheets 21 x 9.9cm
  • greyboard 2mm thic, 4 pieces, 9.9 x 10.5cm
  • Coloured hessian cord, 2-3mm diameter, 3 pieces, 20 cm each
  • Thick waxed linen thread, 3.5-4 meters
  • Cotton rag or watercolour paper, 200-300gsm, 26 x 15cm
  • 1 metal ring or triangle (1 cm diameter) and 1 small nail 0.6cm long
  • 1 strip of leather 0.6-0.7mm thick or linen cotton ribbon, 15 x 1.2cm
  • PVA glue and brush, waste paper as an old glossy magazine
  • Watercolours and small brushes

  • Scissors
  • Needle
