Cafe Create: Alexander Technique for Desk-based Creatives
Wed 1 June 2016, 09:00 – 10:30 BST
This will be a participative practical and experiential session led by Olwen Edwards MSTAT, a registered Alexander Technique Teacher of 14 years teaching experience, based in the Elsie whitely Innovation Centre.
Olwen will share practical examples of The Alexander Technique, which has been utilised for over 100 years to help clients to permanently improve their posture, balance and co-ordination in order to become physically poised and present. As the physical, mental and emotional are inextricably interconnected, becoming physically poised and present means becoming poised and present in every other way.
When clients have improved posture and poise (e.g whilst working at their desks), there is less fatigue, pain and discomfort, greater creativity and improved performance. This is why the BBC, Google, The Guardian, RADA and Julliard have introduced the Alexander Technique to their staff and students.
The Alexander Technique is Clinically proven for chronic back and neck pain. In the NHS back pain trial, participants typically experienced an 85% reduction in back pain which continued long term. There were no exercises to do and no adverse effects.
