Event description

Description

Cafe Scientifique / Cafe Culture North East is at Costa Coffee, in Blackwells Bookshop

Join us for a welcoming discussion, events are free, no need to book, just turn up!

Selina Stead, Newcastle University, will introduce this discussion by sharing why it is so important that our seas are healthy and sustainable. James Guest, Newcastle University, will explore the critically important ecosystem coral reefs provide through food, income and coastal defences for millions of people.

Like trees in a forest, corals create the habitat which supports remarkable levels of biodiversity found on reefs. He will discuss the threat posed by climate change and innovative conservation techniques that may help them survive.

NOTE: New start time, event begins at 5.30pm drinks available at the start of the event (only) and talk starts promptly at 6pm.
