Title of lecture: 'The conservation of a large Roman Pottery Storage Jar from Venta Icenorum, and a Little Bit More…'

Summary: Jan Bird is a retired Conservator who worked at one of London’s biggest Museums for 10 years. She has recently joined the CRP, and was asked to see if it was possible to reconstruct a large Roman storage Jar from the 2010 excavations at Venta Icenorum. Jan will be talking about how she approached the task, describing her thought processes and the various stages of the restoration. Jan will also talk about the differences between Conservation and Restoration, using illustrations from objects she has worked on in the past.
