🌱 Learning Matters

A Caithness Experience Matters Gathering

📍 Pulteney Centre, Wick

🗓️ Tuesday 24th June 2025

Starts with lunch at 12:30pm

Co-hosted by Spirit Advocacy and the Caithness Experience Matters Advisory Panel

Let’s celebrate what we’ve learned – and shape what’s next.

Over the past year, the Caithness Experience Matters Advisory Panel has come together to create something special: a values-led, lived experience-driven space for change.

From sharing stories to shaping strategy, from building relationships to bridging gaps between services – we’ve come a long way.

Learning Matters is our final session in this phase of the project – a relaxed, welcoming space where:

💬 We reflect on the difference we've made together
🎤 Hear from Arlene Johnstone (NHS Highland) on what the learning means for services
🤝 Move from collaboration to co-designing more integrated services
🎉 Celebrate community, connection, and the power of lived experience

Expect a warm welcome, a good bowl of soup, time to connect, honest reflections, and a strong focus on what comes next.

Whether you’re a person with lived experience, a third-sector changemaker, or a partner in statutory services – this session is for you.

✨ Come curious. Leave inspired.
Let’s keep building something meaningful – together.

🎟️ Book now – spaces are limited!

Frequently asked questions

What about travel expenses?

We will reimburse you by electronic transfer within 3-5 working days for public transport costs (ticket receipt required). We also pay a small mileage allowance, but would ask that people share transport where possible to keep costs down. Expense Claim Forms will be available on the day.

Is the venue accessible?

The venue has level access and a lift to the meeting room/floor. It has an accessible toilet and disabled people's parking bays at the front of the building. A hearing loop can be provided if requested.

Are refreshments available?

We will provide a free lunch, and refreshments, you can let us know about ANY dietary requirements or intolerances as part of your registration for the event. We will also provide tea, coffee, cake and compassion at the comfort break at the mid point of the event.

I am from a third sector or statutory sector organisation, can I still come?

Yes! We welcome our friends and colleagues from the 3rd sector, Highland Council and NHS Highland. We are keen to nurture mutually beneficial collaborative relationships and future partnerships.

Who are Spirit Advocacy?

Spirit Advocacy is a member-led organisation that is run and controlled by people who identify as having lived or living experience of mental health illness or issues and/or learning disability.

What do we do?

We support people to speak up about their experiences, what they value and what they need.

We do this by creating warm, welcoming and friendly spaces for people to:

  • come together
  • offer mutual support
  • explore shared concerns
  • find common ground

People call this collective advocacy. As a provider of independent collective advocacy we are a member of the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance.

Who do we do this with?

As an independent charity we provide collective advocacy for people with lived and living experiences of mental health issues and illness (HUG Action for Mental Health) and learning disability (People First Highland).
