About this event

Health • Personal health

The cycle training programme aims to enable more people to travel by bike. It is delivered as part of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s cycling and walking programme, in partnership with local authorities and local delivery partners, including Colne Valley Cycle Therapy CIC, in Calderdale.

Sessions are available to all adults aged 16+. You can choose to use your own bike, or one will be provided for you. From Saturday 6 September 2025, our sessions are at Project Colt, on Elland Bridge, where we will have toilet facilities and a cafe for a coffee and snack.

Our Saturday sessions are run by two qualified and highly experienced instructors who will meet you in the cafe at Project Colt before going on to collect bikes and helmets. The sessions themselves take place across the road in the local park space, the towpath or using quiet roads around the Elland area.

The session will be organised according to evreyone's needs and are suitable for:

First time riders – Learn how to ride for the first time. These sessions are held off-site in a traffic-free environment. You will be given tips to help you balance and glide, so you progress to pedalling with confidence.

Improve your bike control in a safe environment. These sessions are held off-site on quiet local roads and traffic-free trails. You will learn how to control your bike and make it go where you want, as well as how to use gears to make going up hill much easier.

All our sessions are free. However, we ask if that if you can't attend a session, please come back to Eventbrite and cancel your place. We always have a waiting list of people wanting to attend. Our funding depends on people turning up, so without you, we won't be able to continue.
