Critical Conversations about Racism in Education

This webinar will explore race and racism and what educators can do to tackle racism in their classrooms and institutions. Khadija Mohammed will share learning from the Scottish Funding Council/Advance HE project she has been leading to tackle racism in further and higher education.

This webinar will be of interest to educators or those responsible for education at all levels from preschool through to higher education. It will also be of interest to community educators as well as others who are keen to learn lessons to apply within their own organisational settings.

Khadija Mohammed

Khadija Mohammed leads on anti -racism work across the further and higher education sector on behalf of Advance HE and the Scottish Funding Council. Khadija is a Senior Lecturer and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the School of Education and Social Sciences. Her PhD centre's on race equality by exploring the lived experiences of Black and Minority Ethnic teachers in Scotland with a focus on celebrating their cultural, linguistic and religious identities. This research has been instrumental in changing the landscape for educators across Scotland. Khadija is the co-founder and Chair of SAMEE. This is a community-led organisation providing support to educators and those in support and guidance roles across the Scottish Education system – nurseries, schools, colleges and universities. Khadija received the Scottish Trade Union Congress Equality Award in 2019. Khadija is the first BAME Muslim educator to be elected as the Vice-Convener of the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).
