About this Event

PRONI and the Ulster Historical Foundation invite you to the launch of Brian Lambkin’s new book Calming Conflict: Northern Ireland, Metaphor and Migration. This book is about what needs to be done to explain conflicts like that of Northern Ireland, propose solutions, and persuade people to adopt them.Speakers will include: Sir George Bain, former Vice-Chancellor of Queen's University, Belfast, and John Gilmour, former Director of the Ulster-American Folk Park, Omagh. Dr Brian Lambkin was the founding Director of the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies at the Ulster-American Folk Park, Omagh, and joint author, with Patrick Fitzgerald, of Migration in Irish History, 1607-2007 (2008, Palgrave Macmillan). He is a former Principal of Lagan College, Belfast, and Chairman of the Association of European Migration Institutions (2001-2010).

Tea and coffee will be available at arrival from 4.30pm. Presentations will take place between 5.00pm and 6.00pm and will be followed by further refreshments and book signing.
