This year we wanted to distribute hampers to 500 families and individuals struggling financially. Thanks to the generosity of the general public, each one of them will now receive a special hamper. The response to our appeal has been amazing and we are very grateful. If you missed the Christmas hamper cut off but would still like help, there are other ways you can support us: We are planning to include a gift with each hamper to all the families. If you want to contribute by purchasing one, you can read more about it here: https://www.cambridge.gov.uk/christmas-gifts-for-vulnerable-families Some people struggle with their energy bills during winter. By donating to our Cambridge Warm Homes campaign you can help keeping a family warm this Christmas. https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/charity-web/charity/displayCharityCampaignPage.action?charityCampaignUrl=CambridgeWarmHomes Though our general food stocks are good, we are always low on some essential items. You can see what we are currently most in need of on our website and you can drop off your donations at our warehouse or in supermarket bins all over town. Your generosity will ensure that everyone that needs food this season will be helped. https://cambridgecity.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/donate-food/

Event description
The Christmas Hamper Project aims to make a positive difference to families who struggle financially at Christmas.

About this Event

Although Cambridge is considered a prosperous area, the reality is that there are many families who struggle financially and Christmas is a very difficult time. Saying Happy Christmas is easy but, together, we can do something to make it real for these families.

By putting together a Christmas Hamper and dropping it off at Buchan Street Neighbourhood Centre you can contribute to one family in Cambridge having a happier Christmas. We will distribute the hampers to families and individuals in need.

Please obtain one large and strong carrier bag and fill it with the following items:

  • Chocolate Christmas log or Christmas cake
  • Children’s Christmas chocolate e.g. selection box
  • After dinner/adult chocolate (no alcohol filled ones please)
  • Fancy sweet biscuits
  • Pringles or similar
  • Cheesy biscuits or similar
  • Nuts
  • Dried fruit (e.g. apricots, figs etc)
  • Tinned ham
  • Tinned tuna/salmon
  • Sweet pickles
  • Jam
  • Shower gel, hand soap or shampoo

Please ensure that

  • all items fit in one bag
  • there are no perishables in the bag and that all items have a best before date of 25th December or later
  • there are no home-made items

The times available for dropping off your hamper are

Monday to Friday 7th to 18th December 10.00-14.00

Sunday 6th and 13th December 14.00-19.00

Buchan Street Neighbourhood Centre is located at 6 Buchan Street, Cambridge, CB4 2XF.

We ask that all people who wish to donate a hamper register. This helps us to understand how many hampers we can supply to families in need and also to plan for the distribution of the hampers.

The Christmas Hamper Project is a collaboration between Cambridge City Foodbank, Cambridge City Council and Cambridge Sustainable Food.
