Cambridgeshire SQL Server User Group PRE-SQLSaturday Meeting!!!
Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM (BST)
Cambridge, United Kingdom
In session #1, the fabulous Allan Mitchell will present:-
"Microsoft Makes Pigs Fly
This session is broken into two uneven parts. The first section will look at Apache Pig and how it can be used to create "embarrassingly parallel" programs when operating on your data in Hadoop. The second part of the session will look at SSIS and how we can use this tried and trusted tool against our hadoop distribution
Apache Pig is a platform for analyzing large data sets that consists of a high-level language for expressing data analysis programs, coupled with infrastructure for evaluating these programs. The salient property of Pig programs is that their structure is amenable to substantial parallelization, which in turns enables them to handle very large data sets.
SSIS is Microsoft's premier ETL tool and has huge popularity around the world and in almost any and every vertical"
In session #2, the hard working Neil Hambly will dazzle you with:-
"SQL Server 2012 Memory Management
SQL Server 2012 brings a wide range of changes, including a key change in how SQL Server memory is managed. Earlier releases of SQL Server have two memory managers, which have now been merged into one. And that’s just the beginning of the changes for SQL Server memory. This session will dive into SQL Server 2012's new memory architecture. We'll see how to diagnose memory performance issues and gain insight into memory pressure issues. We'll also cover the settings to adjust memory configuration levels and their impact. Learn the ways to determine if your memory is performance is 'Healthy' or needs some TLC"
In session #3, Simon Elliston Ball who is the head of Big-Data at Redgate will give you a further insight into the world of Big-Data with the following special 15 minute lightning talk :-
"Introduction to HDInsight" (15 min)
HDInsight is Microsoft’s Hadoop offering hosted in the Azure cloud. This session is a quick introduction to HDInsight, and a guide to some of the features you get and where to find them. We’ll look at how you create and manage clusters and how to get data sets into the system, and some basic querying with Hive and Pig.
