Camden Council and the New Economics Foundation recently concluded a 12-week test and learn pilot, exploring how to best engage those out-of-work due to disabilities and health conditions with a local offer of support, including around employment.
The pilot team made proactive contact with 800 Camden residents in the Limited Capability for Work Related Activity (LCWRA) group of Universal Credit, with 13% taking up the offer of a support conversation, and 41% of that group going on to an appointment with an employment advisor.
The team will share back learnings including:
- The experience of LCWRA claimants, and what makes for successful conversations with them
- The potential return on investment of this kind of proactive intervention
- The benefits of this kind of intervention being locally-led
- Reflections on how this test and learn approach can be used by local areas to tackle complex policy issues and make the case for devolved powers
- A toolkit for other local authorities interested in replicating the intervention locally
Speakers will include:
- Camron Aref-Adib, Lead Member for Finance and Cost of Living, Camden Council
- Zoe Tyndall, Head of Debt and Financial Resilience, Camden Council
- Tom Pollard, Head of Social Policy, New Economics Foundation
- Moria Sloan, Public Service Reform programme, Cabinet Office
