Geologists just look at rocks, right? In this special talk at the Staithes Festival, BBC TV geologist Professor Chris Jackson invites you to think again, and to consider the almost unlimited ways in which geology and geologists shape our lives, livelihoods, and even Labour's red wall.
Chris will take you on a multi-billion-year journey through space and time to reveal how many of the great social, environmental, and economic challenges of the 21st Century require geologists.
Chris's talk will begin at 5.30pm in Staithes Village Hall, Cliff Road, Staithes, TS13 5AD, and will last around 50 minutes. Tickets for the talk are £4pp, plus the Eventbrite booking fee.
Professor Chris Jackson is technical director at the engineering consultancy WSP and visiting professor of basin analysis at Imperial College London. Chris is a geologist, with an interest in how we can sustainably and safely use the Earth’s subsurface to access critical resources and store hazardous waste. When not studying the subsurface of the Earth, Chris gives geoscience lectures to the public and in schools, having appeared on several, earth science-focused, television productions and podcasts.
