This workshop aims to provide :

  • Introduction to the history of canals and canal building

  • Introduction to the canals of the West Midlands , and the work of the Canal & River Trust

  • Issues of designation, protection, conservation,& planning

  • Visit to Ashsted locks to consider issues on site

13 May - Dudley Canal and Tunnel Trust, 501 Birmingham New Road, Dudley, West Midlands,DY1 4SB

This workshop aims to provide :

  • Introduction to the work of the Dudley canal trust

  • Boat trip into the Dudley tunnel and Limestone caverns

  • Presentation on and discussion about the conservation & reuse of historic canal boats

  • The importance of specialist heritage skills – brick laying, lock restoration etc

  • Presentation on the issues of funding and reuse of canal assets and overview of some current projects


£150 for the 2 days including lunch and refreshments but excluding accommodation
