About this event

This relaxed Sunday stroll will explore a stretch of Chester's historic canal in the north of the city. Your professional local guide, Katie, will share some stories from this period along the route but you'll also have plenty of chance to chat with fellow walkers.

Chester's canal, parts of which date back around 250 years, weaves its way through the city centre around roads, historic buildings and ancient city walls. We'll take a brief look at the grand ambitions behind The Chester Canal and how these were realised - well sort of! We'll also look at some of the buildings surrounding the canal and the communities that lived there, as well as how both they and the canal are being used today.

I run regular walks in Chester and North Wales throughout the year. Please follow me for details of these and other upcoming events.

    Who are these netwalks for?

Literally everyone and anyone! Some of the best connections can be made whilst just walking and chatting. As well as an opportunity to get out and about in the fresh air, it is a great way to meet some like-minded people and share some interesting conversations along the way. Perfect for anyone who loves all things Chester related - local and visitor alike. Please come along and join us for an informal Sunday stroll!

    Where’s it happening?

Please meet outside the main entrance of the Storyhouse on Hunter Street, CH1 2AR for a prompt start at 14.15 pm.

The walk will last approximately 75 minutes and will end back at the Storyhouse.

I'll be at the meeting point from 2 pm so please come along and introduce yourself.

    The practical stuff:

The walk will go ahead whatever the weather so please dress appropriately.

Chester is a historic city and the route will cover uneven surfaces and include steps so please wear suitable footwear. If you have any mobility issues or other accessibility concerns, please contact the organiser before booking to ensure the route can be adjusted accordingly.

The event does not include refreshments, but there are many options for eat-in or take-away food and drink in the local area, either before or after the walk, including at the Storyhouse itself.

If the event has to be cancelled at short notice for any reason, the organisers will make every effort to contact you using details provided at the time of booking.
