About this Event

Update 9th December 2020: This event has been cancelled. We will be running another event on 26th January 2021. Email getstarted@bbk.ac.uk to be sent the booking form for this.

2020 has been a very challenging year in many ways. Whether you're being affected by change or uncertainty in the workplace or using this year as a springboard for taking a new direction in your life, this session is for you.

Who is the session aimed at?

This session is primarily aimed at those with no previous experience of university, and those who have been out of the classroom for many years and are looking for their next move. Designed to help you to explore different options, identify your skills and think about where you are and what you want to do next, this session will help you to take a future focussed look at your career.

What does the workshop cover?

By attending this session you will:

  • Explore your skills and talents, passion and interests and your unique ability
  • Find out how and where you can utilise your skills
  • Learn about career options, including study at Birkbeck
  • Come away with resources and next steps to take you forward

No advance preparation is required but it will be an interactive session so come prepared to get involved.

What if I'm not confident with digital technology or don't have a computer?

We understand that it can be daunting to learn online especially if it's something you haven't done before. You may be worried that you won't be able to get onto the software we use to run the event or don't have the equipment to take part.

This session will be run using our virtual classroom Blackboard Collaborate, which can be accessed via smart phone, tablet or computer/laptop. You can watch a video introducing this online platform here.

We offer additional support for those who want some help accessing the event including the chance to be linked up with a digital mentor who can walk you through how to take part in the live session and the opportunity to practice using the software before the event. Please tell us about any worries you have about attending an online event when you sign up.

We will send an email containing the link to access the event on the morning of the session. On the evening of the event, we recommend logging in to the session 10 minutes before it starts to make sure your connection is working.
