Event description
CANCELLED CANCELLED-Join Butterfly Conservation to find out about the 5 species of Hairstreak Butterfly and what you can do to help them

About this Event

EVENT CANCELLED -

all BC-led events for >25 people in the immediate future are cancelled. This means that the Introduction to Hairstreak Butterflies on the 18th April is cancelled with immediate effect.

We are deeply sad that this cannot go ahead, but we have to balance the benefits of events with the risks of encouraging large numbers of people to come together and potentially increase the transmission of the virus.

There are five species of hairstreak butterfly in the UK. Of all butterflies, this group is particularly at risk of habitat destruction, especially from development and changes in farming practices. The Oxford and Ampthill Clays are the only place in the UK where all five of the hairstreak family of butterflies naturally occur.

Workshop content will include:

  • A brief background to the Charity and the Local branch
  • Species descriptions for the 5 hairstreak butterflies including how to identify them
  • Survey and monitoring methods

Attendees will then be the first to find out about a series of walks we have planned over the summer so that you can see the butterflies in the field.

Please note that this workshop is an aimed at adults, but older children (over 14) are welcome to attend if accompanied by an adult.
