CANCELLED The Craft of Novel Writing with Maggie Gee
Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10:00 AM - Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 5:00 PM (BST)
London, United Kingdom
Acclaimed novelist and experienced creative writing tutor Maggie Gee offers a practical, workshop-based course on the craft of novel-writing.
Students will get the chance both to do some new writing and to improve existing work. Topics covered include how to make your characters live - how do they become believable, and how do you see the world through other people's eyes? How do you find, and structure, your story?
It's partly the sheer length that makes novels hard to write: what might help you get to the end, and how can you write an ending that satisfies your readers? Once you've reached the end, how do you achieve the distance and clarity to edit your work and make it better? All students will receive written feedback on their work from Maggie, and the second day's workshops will provide a chance for oral feedback from the whole class.
The course will take place at the Guardian / Observer offices in London.
Profile of Maggie Gee

She teaches writing regularly for the Arvon foundation and other national institutions and is currently writing a novel whose story splits between New York and Istanbul.
