Event description
Northern Cancer Alliance Cancer Evolution- Collaborate to Innovate Conference 2019

About this Event

The focus for this year’s Northern Cancer Alliance conference will be to explore how we can continue to evolve and innovate as a Cancer Alliance.

All of our achievements and successes to date can be attributed to the strong collaborative partnerships we have, and the skills and expertise of “our people” from across the cancer system and within our communities. This conference provides an opportunity for us to come together as a collective to identify ways in which we can continue build on this strength and identify new ways of working to further improve the experience of our patients.

With this in mind; we have designed a programme that will be very interactive. It will provide plenty of opportunity for discussion and debate, as well as working together to identify new approaches and innovate ideas to support achieving the objectives of the Alliance and our Integrated Care System.

Workshops will be held at the beginning of day; the aim of each workshop being to discuss key areas appropriate and identify potential actions for future development.

For further information about each of the workshops please see below:

Workshop 1: Early Diagnosis & Rapid Diagnosis Centres

This session provides an opportunity to share the current developments that are supporting earlier diagnosis and the development of RDC’s in our region, particularly in our cancer localities. Attendees will be asked to explore what else we need to do to achieve the stage shift we require and identify potential actions for the future.

Workshop 2: Primary Care Networks

The introduction of primary care networks will provide an opportunity for further developing existing partnerships with primary care colleagues. This session will ask attendees to work together to identify the potential benefits these partnerships could bring including addressing inequalities, delivering personalised care, improving early diagnosis and sharing capacity.

Workshop 3: Cancer Pathways

This session provides an opportunity to reflect on the pathway improvement work completed to date and the impact of this work to date. Attendees will be asked to work together to identify further opportunities for pathway improvement based on the strength of our existing partnerships and level expertise we have across the Alliance.

Workshop 4: Health Inequalities

This session provides an opportunity to ask ourselves how well we understand cancer inequalities in our region and discuss the opportunities that collaborative working could bring for levelling the playing field. Attendees will be also be asked to think about the role they can play individually in the reduction of health inequalities.

During the lunch hour there will be a cookery demonstration from the “Life Kitchen”. There will also be an opportunity to attend a “Death Café” , this will be held in the Green Room. This is a discussion forum where people come together to have a relaxed and informal chat about dying and death. Although a natural part of the life cycle, death, dying, bereavement and grief are some of our biggest conversational taboos. Death Café is a social franchise that is are currently offered in 65 countries across the world. They increase awareness of death and encourage open discussion with the aim of supporting people to make the most of their lives. Please note places for the café are limited and can be booked via Eventbrite.

The latter half of the afternoon session will provide conference attendees with an opportunity for debate and questions with an expert panel. The framework for discussions will have been previously decided by you as an attendee. We will be asking you to participate in a digital poll (open from mid-August to early September) to shape this session so that we can discuss the issues that are important to us all.
