About this Event

Overview

An event hosted by the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN): Cancer National Specialty Leadership team to showcase how the NIHR services to industry can improve clinical research delivery. This will be a forum for industry representatives and research active cancer clinicians to exchange ideas about current and future research.

10:00-10:30 Welcome drinks & refreshments

10:30-10:45 Welcome address

Jonathan Sheffield, NIHR CRN Chief Executive Officer will open the meeting and will highlight the importance of the CRN working in collaboration with industry.

10:45-11.00 Cancer Research in the NHS: Present and Future

Matt Seymour will describe the current NHS Cancer Research landscape and infrastructure, illustrating progress in delivering evidence-based treatment and associated improvements in patient outcomes. Focusing on emerging trends in cancer research, including the use of big data, Prof Seymour will also highlight the future landscape of cancer research in the NHS.

1100- 11:30 NIHR Clinical Research Network: Delivering Commercial Research

Sarah Danson, NIHR CRN National Specialty Lead for Early Phase Cancer Research, will outline the structure and function of the CRN and how this network approach supports the successful delivery of clinical research in the NHS.

Gareth Powell, NIHR CRN Business Development Officer, will highlight the bespoke Study Support Service available to the life sciences industry to facilitate the delivery of your research.

One of our patient, carer, and public involvement and engagement members will discuss the role of service user in cancer research, demonstrating the advantages of patient engagement at all stages of the research pathway.

Key opinion leaders and NIHR Cancer National Specialty Leads will present exemplars of commercial and academic cancer research trials from across the cancer pathway.
