Event description

Description

Join us on 19th March to explore innovative ways to support the early detection and treatment of cancer across the eastern region. Bringing together innovators, practitioners, and experts by experience, our development day provides the opportunity to find out more about new innovations for the early detection of cancer.

Hosting our event will be Bill Turnbull, one of the UK’s best-loved former BBC News Breakfast TV presenters who spent fifteen years waking up Britain on the popular show. Bill has been experiencing his own journey through cancer and will be sharing his thoughts with us on the day.

Bill will also Chair a panel discussion featuring experts Jasmin Julia Gupta – the founder of Cancer Hair Care and Liz O’Riordan, a Consultant Breast Surgeon. Attendees will have their chance to quiz the panel and to hear pitches from the latest solutions ready for use in care services.

Cancer innovation exchange

The innovators present on the day will have been selected based on the relevance of their innovations to the cancer challenges we are facing in the region.

Working with partners across the Eastern region, we developed challenge statements to outline the problems the cancer community is looking to solve. Innovators were asked to submit solutions to these challenges and we will be assessing these submissions through a panel of people with lived and professional experience. The most relevant innovations will be invited to attend the event.

Our challenge statements are:

  • Are there innovative approaches, including new models and enabling digital methods, that can support the overstretched cancer workforce areas such as the radiology and pathology workforce?

  • Can innovations support improvements in lung and prostate cancer pathways, particularly in relation to improving early stage diagnosis, better managing demand, and reducing emergency presentations?

  • Can innovations support the earlier detection of cancers that are harder to diagnose, such as rare cancers or cancers with non-specific symptoms, in a primary care or home setting?

What will happen on the day?

Attendees will be grouped into tables and will have the opportunity to have an in depth discussion with several innovators, as well as the opportunity to network with colleagues from across the region.

You will be matched with innovators according to your innovation interests - so please do let us know your preferences in the registration form.

Following discussions on the day, we can support to link you with innovators to work towards setting up pilots or trial projects to implement the innovations in the region.
