Event description

Description

Lancashire BME Network (LBN) have been commissioned by NHS England to increase the awareness of the National Cancer Screening programmes in Lancashire; these consist of the three national programmes (Breast, Bowel, and Cervical) plus Triple A (Abnormal Aortic Aneurism) and Diabetic Eye. The idea behind this programme is to provide an awareness raising workshop to non-clinical individuals who can then cascade that knowledge into the communities they work with/support. These communities include;

  • Care Homes and Supported Living
  • Secure Mental Health Units
  • Prisons
  • Traveller sites
  • BME communities

Who can be involved?

This opportunity is open to organisations, self-employed individuals, and volunteers. Anyone who has contact with any of those communities named above is able to engage with this project.

Expectations?

If any Organisation/Individual wishes to be involved, they need to attend a training workshop; this training workshop will be 4 hours in duration. LBN will provide financial recompense to any organisation who release staff to attend the training, in order for organisations to cover that role whilst the staff member is in training.

Once the training is complete, there is an expectation that each trainee will then ‘cascade’ that information out to 12 individuals (these can be employees or community members); once again the time taken to achieve this will be covered to ensure that employers are not left with gaps in service. We will also cover refreshments and reasonable expenses involved in delivering the cascade training.

Financial Recompense?

Organisations

£125 per staff member released* to allow for cover of released staff for the workshop and then for the cascade opportunity (8 hours’ total cover).

Payment to be made on receipt of evidence of cascade opportunity having taken place. Payment made by invoice.

Individuals (self-employed)

£120 per individual to cover freelance time associated with the workshop and then for the cascade opportunity.

Payment to be made on receipt of evidence of cascade opportunity having taken place. Payment made by invoice.

Individuals (volunteers)

Volunteers entered into a prize draw for £50 ‘Love2Shop’ gift cards*

* Volunteer to be entered into prize draw on receipt of evidence of cascade opportunity having taken place. Very high chance of volunteers receiving a prize.

  • All organisations, individuals, and volunteers involved will be invited to a ‘sharing experience’ to celebrate the impact you have had in raising awareness of cancer Screening.
  • All travel expenses involved in attending the workshop or delivering the cascade awareness will be covered (40p per mile for car travel, train tickets, bus tickets; NO TAXI’S).
  • Refreshments for cascade awareness sessions will be covered to a maximum of £2 per person.
  • Room/venue hire for cascade awareness sessions will be covered (these costs need to be approved in advance)
  • Any relevant resources required to deliver the cascade awareness sessions will be covered (these costs need to be approved in advance)
  • Receipts will be required for all expenses, and all expenses need to be approved in advance.

This is a great opportunity to increase knowledge and awareness of the National Cancer Screening programmes in your communities – the communities identified have been identified because of low uptake of the screening programmes.
