About this event

  • 3 hours

A first at Sussex Prairies, this workshop is ideal for anyone wanting to learn how to make a traditional English stake and strand basket. I will be showing you the basic techniques of how to construct a small fruit basket. Ideal for beginners, we will be using a range of colourful cane which is a great material to learn with as it's easier on the hands than willow and allows you to focus on the technique and rhytmm of weaving. You will be guided through the process of constructing a basket from base to border.

Hello I'm Emily a potter and basketweaver and I'm passionate about sharing my skills with you! Making with our hands is so important; it makes us feel connected and present to materials and process and unleashes the creativity I believe is in everyone. I work my little garden shed in Surrey and host workshops from various locations in and around London. Please keep a look out here and hopefully something catches your eye!

Alternatively if are interested in 1-1 or family/friend workshops then please get in touch.
