Who can use PSC canoes?
All PSC members can make use of our canoes, but there should always be an adult PSC member on board.
Best paddled by two, they can be used solo and if some of the paddlers are lighter you can carry a maximum of four in the larger canoes.
Safety Protocols - please read these carefully before you book a PSC canoe.
- The boats are stored upside down on a trailer. At least two adults should be involved in lifting them down; please take care when doing this. Seek help from other members if necessary!
- The canoes are fairly stable but please be aware that if you capsize you will not be able to self rescue as you can in a sailing dinghy.
- A buoyancy aid must be worn by everyone on board.
- ‘Wet shoes’ or similar should be worn.
- Be aware that offshore winds may make it difficult to paddle home.
- Please remember that we are not allowed to swim in our lake - the canoe should not be used as a swim platform!
- Observe the 20m exclusion zone around the lake, i.e. stay at least 20m away from the bank and from the island.
- You should only launch and land inside our compound, i.e. you should not leave the lake.
- Be aware of other water users and paddle considerately.
