Event description

Description

This event has now SOLD OUT

Cantley Hall is a private estate renovated over the past 25 years by Lord and Lady Kirkham to house a remarkable collection of modern art in a garden setting. They have also overseen the restoration of the Victorian fernery, and a two acre, fully functioning walled garden with original buildings. An arboretum has been planted with many rare and interesting trees and the existing woodland and parkland has been carefully maintained. There is also a fully working Rider steam water pump.

The National Garden Scheme is the first charity to have been invited to visit these gardens, and we will be accompanied around the grounds by some of the gardening staff.

Opening Thursday 16th May (10am -4pm). Admission price of £75. Pre-booking essential. Please note that there is no wheelchair access.

The day begins at around 10am when we shall meet Ian Fretwell the Head Gardener and have a cup of coffee. This will be followed by the first of two guided tours in the company of one of the five gardeners. After the tour at approximately 12.15 we shall drive to Walkers Nurseries, Blaxton DN9 3BA (approx 10 minute drive) for a two course lunch with wine in a private area of the restaurant. (Dietary requirements can be catered for.) After lunch we shall aim to be back at the Hall by 2pm for the second half of the tour of the grounds and gardens, followed by tea and home-made cake. The visit should finish at about 4pm.
