the Capability Brown Festival team
As part of the Capability Brown Festival's commitment to building and sharing knowledge, we warmly invite you to join us at the third event in the Skills Sharing Seminar program: Interpreting Brown's Account Book.
The session will be led by expert palaeographer, archivist and historical researcher Peter Foden and hosted by Fiona Davidson, Head of the Royal Horticultural Society's Lindley Library.
The day will comprise an introduction to palaeography and 18th century handwriting, giving you hints and tips about deciphering Brown's 'round hand' style. You'll get the chance to try your hand at transcribing directly from Brown's account book, and hear about what we have learned about the landscaping business and Brown's work from this valuable resource. We'll also look at various other documents and sources such as account vouchers, terriers and deeds, letters, bonds and bank notes.
A more detailed agenda will be available shortly/emailed to you upon your confirmation of attendance.
Lunch, tea and coffee will be provided. Please specify any particular dietary requirements by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org

While at the Lindley Library you are invited to view the 'A Very Capable Businessman' exhibition featuring Brown's account book and contemporary horticultural literature from the period.
