THIS IS A JOINT HEADLINE SHOW WITH CAPE CUB & KINGSLEY CHAPMAN & THE MURDER
KINGSLEY CHAPMAN & THE MURDER: As frontman and creator of north eastern English artrock band The Chapman Family, Kingsley flirted continuously between success and failure for a number of years before finally agreeing to call time on the group in the summer of 2013. Between 2009 and 2013 the cult band had toured relentlessly in the UK, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, the USA and Japan; released an album, an EP and numerous singles; sessioned with Huw Stephens at Radio 1; appeared on the cover of Artrocker Magazine twice; topped an MTV viewers video chart for three weeks; played numerous festivals including Glastonbury, Reading, Eurosonic and Pukkelpop; and were the first and only completely unsigned band to play on the prestigious NME Radar tour where they supported La Roux and Heartbreak.Once the band eventually decided to part ways Kingsley was pretty much completely burnt out and turned his back on music completely. After a year and numerous visits to pretty much every doctors surgery and hospital in the North East he was tested, prodded and poked to recover from the physical and mental exhaustion. Whilst clicking away on a morphine drip after an operation he visualised the next project. It wasn't going to be just merely spiky guitars and northern anger anymore - it was going to be luscious, glamourous, expansive and darker than night. It would mix love, loss, death, turmoil, injustice and euphoria and it wouldn't be done to anyone else's agenda other than his own. It would be political and angry - masquerading as romance - a hand grenade in a chocolate box.
His new seven piece band The Murder take their musical references from the mythology of iconic rock and art. They are a dizzying mix of thundering drums, sparkling pianos, lush strings, skyscraping horns and barbed wire guitars all underpinned by a distinctly northern croon.
Their debut single "Lovers" was released in July 2015 on the Too Pure label. It was championed by Steve Lamacq on BBC6music where it won Rebel Playlist and has also been played extensively on XFM (where it was John Kennedy's "hot one") and Amazing Radio. Every subsequent and previous recording the band has ever released has been played on BBC6music as well as various BBC Introducing shows across the country. In March 2016 they did a four track session for legendary DJ John Kennedy at Radio X in London which aired as their latest song (not a single, just a new recording), "The Children Scream", was his record of the week.
