The John Smith Centre invites you to join us for the launch of Dr Joe Greenwood-Hau’s new book, Capital, Privilege and Political Participation. The British Academy Monograph investigates how people’s wealth, social connections, cultural tastes and pastimes, and their perceptions of privilege relate to their political activities. Drawing on survey data, interviews with MPs, activists and lower-participation members of the public, as well as focus groups, the book sheds light not only on how capital and privilege relate to political participation but also how people think and talk about those relationships.
The event will include a short presentation by the author, followed by a panel discussion and an audience Q&A focusing on the book and the topic of political inequalities more generally. The discussion will be chaired by the Centre’s Director, Eddie Barnes, and we are delighted that the panel will include:
- Professor Christopher Carman, Stephen Professor of Citizenship, University of Glasgow
- Dr Elli Loose, Research & Engagement Manager, John Smith Centre, University of Glasgow
- Dr Stefanie Reher, Reader in Politics, University of Strathclyde
- Professor Tom Scotto, Head of Department, Government and Public Policy, University of Strathclyde
