About this event

Our Captains of Industry Talks is a series of online talks from a range of inspirational industry leaders. They are an opportunity for our graduates, students and friends of the University to hear first-hand from experts in their field regarding their career journey, lessons learned, and the impacts of COVID-19 on their sector.

Next in our series is Hollywood producer and President of Netflix's Millarworld Division, Mark Millar on Thursday 8th April at 4pm (UK time).

Mark is a New York Times best-selling comic-book writer, Hollywood producer and President of Netflix’s Millarworld Division in Los Angeles. Mark and his wife Lucy sold their company to Netflix in 2017 and their first series from the world’s biggest streaming platform is Jupiter’s Legacy, an eight-part superhero blockbuster in 2021.

His previous work includes Kingsman, Kick-Ass, Wanted, Old Man Logan, Superman: Red Son and Civil War. Old Man Logan was the inspiration for Hugh Jackman’s Logan movie and Civil War was the inspiration for Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War. His Superman graphic novel Red Son was adapted in 2020 as an animated movie and is the biggest-selling Superman graphic novel in history. Civil War remains Marvel’s biggest-selling graphic novel of all time.

Mark will talk about his career journey, sharing advice and lessons he has learned along the way, as well as insights of how COVID-19 has impacted his sector and what challenges and opportunities he sees longer term.

The talk will be followed by a Q&A. You can submit your question(s) in advance or via the raise hand / chat functionality on the day.
