Event description

Description

Part of the Health and Human Rights guest lecture series

What does an absolute ban on abortion mean for women, girls and medical professionals? Lecturer in human rights law at the University of London, Dr Vickie Knox will discuss how most Central American countries have banned the termination of pregnancy in all circumstances – even to save the life of the pregnant woman. She will discuss the imprisonment of women after obstetric complications or unattended births, and how, in some circumstances, medical professionals cannot give pregnant women medical treatment including chemotherapy in case it provokes a miscarriage.

The evenings start at 6pm with a drinks reception and talks begin at 6.30pm. Please note these are followed at 7.30pm by an optional two course meal for Hull Medical Society members, a great opportunity for socialising and networking (£17.50 for Hull Medical Society members, £10 for HYMS students). Your free ticket covers your entry to the drinks reception and talk.
