Event description
Capture your passion for Food at the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival in Suffolk.

About this Event

The day will combine time in the studio learning how to use your camera with an afternoon of practising what you have learnt at one of the best food festivals in the country, the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival in Suffolk.

You will learn:

- Overview of your camera and how to best use it

- Using Aperture Priority

- Photographing with natural daylight

- Composition of your shot

- Reportage / Candid photography – how to be invisible!

- Telling a story through your images

This workshop is aimed at those of you who own a camera with manual functions (DSLR, Bridge or Compact System Camera), who are keen to learn how to take your camera off Auto and discover the joy of using Aperture Priority, where the focus pin-points the subject of your image.

Jemma is an established food photographer with many years’ experience shooting food and events. In the morning Jemma will cover the basics of using your camera, gaining a deeper knowledge of how to take your photography to a new level. The focus will be on taking your camera off Auto and learning reportage, or candid, photography, skills you will need when out and about taking pictures of the world around you. You will learn about using natural light, how to compose a shot, and how to take those pictures when no one knows you are there. Jemma will talk about food photography and how to capture this whilst shooting out on location. These are perfect skills to have if you like to document your holidays (or just day to day life) through your photos or capture an exciting event.

The afternoon will be spent photographing the vibrant atmosphere of the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival. This is an annual event hosting all of the best food producers found here in the massively foodie counties of Suffolk, Essex and Norfolk. The people, the colours, the food are wonderful to photograph.

After an afternoon of taking photos we will settle in a local pub to look at our images and discuss what you have learnt, answering any further questions you may have. You will go home after the day with an interesting collection of photos and a deeper understanding of how to capture life around you through the lens.

Suffolk is a beautiful place to visit so why not make a weekend of it? The festival continues on the Sunday, so you may wish to return to spend the day enjoying all the amazing food and entertainment that the festival offers…and of course, take more pictures!
