First-rate provision in the Early Years Foundation Stage is vital to the success of any school and has long been a bedrock of Gipsy Hill Federation’s success. This programme aims to give teachers the tools they need to ensure their pupils make the best possible start to their lives in school by drawing upon the Federation’s sustained track record of securing outstanding outcomes for its pupils.
It is designed for:

Teachers who are teaching in the Early Years Foundation Stage for the first time;

More experienced EYFS practitioners who are keen to evaluate their practice, observe provision in different environments to their own and gain fresh insights and new ideas;

Senior leaders who have responsibility for the strategic planning of EYFS provision in their school.

0830 Registration, tea and coffee, meet and greet with facilitators and participants
0900 Introduction and Welcome: What are the challenges in delivering a first-rate EYFS experience for your pupils?
The Learning Environment as Second Teacher: using adults and the environment to facilitate learning through independent play. Discuss key principles; observe practice in action through a tour of Federation sites; reflect on practice in your own school
1100 BREAK
1115 Practical Workshop: Writing Quality Observations of the Characteristics of Effective Learning: how to write quality observations; guided observation; moderation of judgements
1200 Practical Approaches to Phonics: immerse yourself in practical demonstrations of strategies to teach phonics in real time and reflect on your practice
1245 Introduction to the afternoon session: Creative approaches to inspiring writing
1300 Lunch, including networking opportunities with participants
1330 Creative approaches to inspiring writing: guided observation of approaches in action in several Federation sites, including focus activities and freeflow independent play
1445 Evaluation: Reflecting on practice observed, identifying next steps for your school Question and Answer session
1500 End of programme

Additional half-day visit to your school from an outstanding Federation senior leader who is specialist in Eary Years to observe teaching, moderate outcomes or evaluate your curriculum plan (£249 per half day).

Twilights for a school staff team to develop subject knowledge (cost dependent of size of team).
