All Abilities: Beginners, Improvers & Advanced!

Research shows that people who are psychologically well rounded and happy have some sort of creative hobby - everyone of them. Getting into a flow takes practice and sometimes finding the zone takes a little while, and so I have developed this workshop to help you begin your journey or an opportunity to really delve in to some creative time.

This is going to be a spectacular workshop in which we dig deep and allow our appreciation of nature to unfold beautifully in front of us with a series of artworks.

Using a large variety of media is a huge motivator in my own practice and for years I have loved to work with a mixture of mediums and it will be an honour to share some of these techniques and process with you. I'm so delighted to offer you a beautiful workshop of print, paint and mixed media and I hope you will join me in this opportunity to dig deep and allow your interests in creative making to come forth!

This wonderful workshop will begin with a walk down one of our islands beautiful glens, where we will meet and take a walk to observe nature first hand. Recording our journey we will take photographs and collect source material which we will incorporate in our artworking practice over the next few days.

On our return to the gallery we will work through some very basic drawing and printmaking techniques to create a number of studies based on beautiful leaf and floral shapes, explore different colour schemes using acrylic paint, watercolors, inks, salt and watercolor pencils. We will create a series of nature based mono prints, using our nature finds. This will be a wonderful introduction to a number of mediums and an opening of our hearts to the expressive nature of floral and botanical studies through the development of a visual story board.

We will then create 2 final pieces of work, a mixed media acrylic painting and an an artwork that we will seal with wax - using simple encaustic wax techniques.

Nature is a marvellous source to use in our artwork and I hope you’ll join me in this class so that we can make magic of our own, sharing with kindred spirits.

A focus on expressive work over realism will result in lively and emotive artworks!

Who is this class for?

Beginner and improver levels and those who wish to explore an expressive approach to their work while learning more about developing a project, composition and colour theory and technique. This class does not require any previous drawing or painting experience, although those that wish to develop these skills will also apreciate a concentration of this time to practice. This workshop will offer rewarding experience, therefore, those looking to delve deeper and perhaps even release emotion will find these methods very cathartic. It is perfect for those wishing to evoke more emotion and practice in developing their own ideas for their art.
