Description

** This event has been postponed until further notice. **

Please instead feel free to attend either of our Marine Invaders Searches this weekend:

Sunday 29th April - Mount Batten, Plymouth: 11:30-13:30 (Volunteer-led Marine Invaders Search - click here)
Sunday 29th April - Corbyn Head, Torbay: 11:45-14:00 (Volunteer-led Marine Invaders Search - click here)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Survey Day is an event for all registered Capturing our Coast rocky shore volunteers (register at www.capturingourcoast.co.uk) to come and practice their surveying and identification skills with the team, whilst also helping us collect vital data for the project!

During this survey day, we will also be encouraging volunteers to collect Marine Invaders data as part of a National CoCoast Marine Invaders Campaign between 27th and 30th April, in addition to uploading data to iNaturalist for the Plymouth City Nature Challenge (click here for more information).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you haven't completed classroom training for our general quadrat surveys, then we have Marine Invaders invasive species timed searches that we need your help with, as well as our Wading Birds and Beach Babies surveys to complete too!

Survey Site: Kingsand is a fantastic survey site that is easily accessible from Plymouth with a large midshore area, great for peeking into rockpools and looking for a variety of species... we're very interested to see what Marine Invaders we might find here!

We will meet in the Kingsand Car Park (PL10 1NA) at 09:00, ready to head down to the shore shortly afterwards.

Travelling to Kingsand: The number 70 bus leaves from Plymouth Royal Parade to Kingsand every hour (click here). You can also catch the ferry to Cawsand beach from Plymouth Barbican and back (click here).

Parking: Pay and display parking is available at Kingsand Car Park a 5 minute walk away from our survey site (click here for more information; subject to change by Napier Parking).

If you haven't surveyed for a while and would like a refresher - absolutely no problem! We're always keen to help hone your ID and surveying skills even if it has been a little while since your last outing.

Don't forget your wellies, waterproofs, warm clothing and snacks and/or a packed lunch.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are already field trained - please bring your equipment with you;

  • 50 x 50 cm quadrat and 30 m measuring tape (if applicable)

  • 3 x 3 cm barnacle quadrat, hand lens & clicker counter (if applicable)

  • your clipboard and general protocol sheets

  • a pencil.

We will provide all the recording forms you need and can also supply you with extras if you want to take some away with you at the end of the day too!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although this is a great chance to add to the CoCoast dataset, we're keen for everyone to enjoy themselves, get to know each other and gain valuable experience along the way!

If you have any questions in advance of this Survey Day, feel free to get in touch: cocoast@mba.ac.uk.
