Event description

Description

Over half of the world's population now lives in cities, but what kind of places are we creating? Guardian photographer David Levene will discuss his new book City and the accompanying exhibition at Foyles Charing Cross Road.

Joining Levene will be editor of Guardian Cities Chris Michael, and former Guardian head of photography Roger Tooth, who picture-edited City and advised on many of the shooting locations.

City brings together 14 years of work across 62 cities, from the congested streets of Tokyo's Shibuya crossing to the garment factories of Dhaka, to the homeless camps of San Francisco and the northernmost tip of Alaska, providing a startling snapshot of the diverse forms of urbanity that exist across five continents.

Levene's unique perspective tells a powerful story about people and places, revealing how we shape our habitat, and how it in turn shapes us. Our panel will talk about the challenges behind such a project, the lessons from spending time in different cities around the world and the process of compiling the book.

In partnership with The Guardian and Futurecity.

Venue: The Auditorium at Foyles, Level 6, 107 Charing Cross Road.
