About this event

Supported by the CILIP Scotland Research Fund, the Carbon Literacy for Libraries Shareable Course is designed to provide librarians with a comprehensive introduction to carbon literacy and empower them to support climate action. It celebrates the sustainable model of libraries and how they can assist others to cut carbon emissions.

Join staff from the National Library of Scotland for two fun, friendly and interactive afternoons, sharing green ideas with fellow librarians.

The course covers:

  • An introduction to climate science and the impact of climate change.
  • Climate justice and the benefits of taking action.
  • The UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • The National and International context.
  • Calculating carbon footprints.
  • Case studies of how libraries are acting to cut carbon emissions.
  • How libraries can support sustainable communities.
  • Space to develop your own actions to cut carbon emissions

Throughout the course you will be encouraged to share your own experience and ideas and at the end of the day you will be supported to commit to actions relevant to you and your organisation. This course has been validated by the Carbon Literacy Trust and learners will gain carbon literacy certification on submission of the participant evidence form.

Please join us as we come together to grow our environmental knowledge and become certified Carbon Literate Librarians!

This workshop takes place across two sessions:

  • Part one on Wednesday 17th September, 1.30 - 5pm
  • Part two the following week Wednesday 24th September 1.30 - 5pm.

Please ensure that you can attend both sessions in their entirety before booking as attendees must participate in the full workshop to receive their Carbon Literacy Project certification.
